BRAZIL â Oregon-based sea kayaking company Tofino Expeditions has embraced one of the world's newest water sports, and in 2012 offers what may be the first commercial multi-day paddle boarding expedition.
The seven-day trip tours Brazil's Costa Verde, a pristine stretch of beach near Rio de Janeiro sheltered from the Atlantic by Ilha Grande (literally âbig islandâ). The coast's warm waters and gentle waves, paired with the world-famous beach culture of Rio de Janeiro, make it a perfect destination for stand-up paddlers of all abilities. The tour travels from Rio de Janeiro to the colonial town of Paraty, a UNSECO world heritage site. Each day, the group will travel by a local fishing boat to the best paddle boarding spots on Brazil's southern coast. The trip will include about three paddle boarding sessions each day, along with overnight accommodations in a boutique hotel, an eco-lodge, and a guest house in a coastal fishing village. About stand-up paddle boarding Stand-up paddle boarding, or SUP, is a traditional Hawaiian variation on surfing. Rather than swimming out to waves like surfers, SUP boarders use a large canoe-like paddle to travel. While the sport gained initial popularity among surfers, SUP boards are now used on lakes and even rivers. The popularity of stand-up paddle boarding has exploded in the last decade, and the sport has established itself as far more than a passing curiosity. Both veteran surfers and those who have never set foot on a board in their life have been drawn to the sport, providing business for an entirely new facet of the outdoor adventure industry. About Tofino Expeditions Founded by veteran adventurer Grant Thompson, Tofino Expeditions has guided commercial sea kayaking expeditions since 1988, making them one of the oldest companies in the business. The company was the very first to provide guided paddling tours of Vancouver Island's west coast, which is now a destination on the life list of paddlers around the world. The company guides trips along the world's finest coasts in Baja, British Columbia, Croatia, Brazil, Vietnam, Norway, and the Galapagos Islands.Contact: Nancy Harrison, Adventure Media970firstname.lastname@example.org
