Turism&Travel Always a strong source market for mid-priced New York City hotels, Australians, with their strong dollar and long-staying record are high on the watch list of hotels in the Big Apple.

Australians are the second biggest source market for Midtown hotel Affinia Manhattan and, according to general manager Steven Kipnis, the Aussie market has shown strong, consistent growth - particularly in the last three years. “We focus more on Australia now because of the strong market that it has become and the guests that come and stay for long periods of time (ten days or longer) which is good for them, good for us,” Mr Kipnis told e-Travel Blackboard. “It’s a great market for us so we’re trying to be over there more than we have been.” Affinia Manhattan, which has recently completed a US$25 million renovation and is about to embark on the next phase of its makeover is also looking to pursue growth in other markets in Asia and Europe, but are, right now, in Australia looking to grow business Down Under. “We’re in a great location,” Mr Kipnis said, “so it’s an easy sell.” “This is a good location for people who want to get to Times Square because they’re far enough away that they don’t have all the noise but they’re close enough that they can walk to Times Square and get in it for a day.” For more information on Affinia hotels, visit www.affinia.com.
