More than half of Australian travellers are planning to spend their Easter down under, with domestic destinations topping local bookings for the long weekend.
According to a report issued by travel.com.au, 51 percent of all flights booked on the website for the Easter period are for domestic travel.
The company’s general manager Renee Welsh said quick getaways were popular during this period with Sydney coming in first for Aussie selections followed by Brisbane, Adelaide and Melbourne.
“Despite the recent trend of Aussies jetting abroad, over Easter we consistently see Aussie travellers looking to their homeland for a holiday break,” Ms Welsh said.
“This year, flights to Sydney have come out on top followed by Brisbane, Adelaide and Melbourne.”
According to Ms Welsh, this is the first time in years that Adelaide has beaten Melbourne as a more popular travel destination during Easter.
For Sydneysiders, the Blue Mountains and Sydney Harbour were the top locations to visit this year.
International destinations were still relevant for Australian’s planning trips during the April holidays.
“New Zealand has come out on top, followed in order by Thailand, India, the UK, China and Malaysia,” Ms Welsh concluded.
