Industry leaders in New Zealand have united their brain power, merging the Tourism Industry Association New Zealand (TIA) and New Zealand Hotel Council (NZHC) into one single organisation.
Effective 1 April this year, current NZHC members will move into TIA, while TIA will launch a new hotel sector dedicated resource.
NZHC Regional Chairs will remain in place while both TIA and NZHC members will continue to retain all the benefits and services currently received.
Speaking at a Special General Meeting of NZHC this week, TIA chairman Norm Thompson said forming the one organisation would strengthen the tourism industry on a national level.
“The integrated organisation will create unified, highly focused leadership for our industry,” he said.
“A strong hotel sector is vital to a thriving visitor economy.
“Together we can deliver even better outcomes for our members.”
Concurring, NZHC independent chair Jennie Langley added that the industry needs to speak with one voice that will shape the future of the country’s tourism.
“A collective approach is much stronger and more effective,” she said.
