New technology will help to phase out the 100ml limit on liquids carried aboard international flights, Australia being the first nation to cease the ban.
From July 1, new x-ray security devices, able to detect explosive liquids, will be installed in international transit lounges.
European and US airports will follow suit next year, relaxing laws on the 100ml limit from April.
$28.5 million has been provided by the Federal Government to aid in the implementation of the new technology.
In the early stages the new equipment will only apply to duty-free sealed bags.
