eTravelBlackboard: Australians, Brazilians taking to Tahoe terrain
Turism&Travel The merits of North Tahoe speak for themselves (Image Squaw Valley) A long time favourite among winter sport enthusiasts from across North America and Europe, North Lake Tahoe is increasingly attracting visitors from Australia and Brazil, says the region’s leisure sales manager Jeremy Jacobson.

“Australia and Brazil are our biggest emerging markets,” Mr Jacobson told e-Travel Blackboard, on location at the Resort at Squaw Creek in Olympic Valley. “In fact, Australia is almost on par with our traditional leading source market, the United Kingdom.” With March bringing heavy snowfalls to the region’s ski resorts, Mr Jacboson said it was the combination of great snow, excellent facilities and a convenient location that would continue to lure visitors from down under and beyond to North Tahoe. Meanwhile, ski wholesale companies from Australia and New Zealand will be among those in attendance at the 37th Annual Mountain Travel Symposium, being hosted for the second time by North Lake Tahoe. One of the world’s premier ski industry wholesale conferences, the event will be held from April 15-21 at the Resort at Squaw Creek. “Mountain Travel Symposium is the biggest and longest running annual contracting and networking gathering in the mountain travel industry worldwide,” North Lake Tahoe Chamber/CVB/Resort Association chief marketing officer Andy Chapman said. “To have our colleagues here in North Lake Tahoe to experience our product firsthand, especially with all its great spring snow, is absolutely advantageous. “These ski wholesalers are going to have North Tahoe and our variety of lodging options on the brain when talking with clients from all over the world.” In attendance at the conference will be representatives from Orbitz, Expedia, Travelocity, Mark Travel, HotelBeds, Crystal, Virgin Holidays, Ski.com and Mountain Reservations amongst others. In related news, California and Nevada officials have revealed that they would be joining forces in a bid to lure the Winter Olympic Games back to Lake Tahoe in 2022. North Tahoe’s Squaw Valley, which was recently announced as the venue for next year’s US Alpine Skiing Championships, hosted the Winter Olympics in 1960.
