eTravelBlackboard: Unused Aus vacations, an opportunity for Thailand
Turism&Travel Royal Palace & Temple This year is the year for Thailand to draw in more Aussie travellers, according to the Consul General of Thailand Biravij Suwanpredhes, who said the growing number of unused Australian vacation time presented ‘major’ tourism opportunities.

Speaking at the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) annual road show this week, Mr Suwanpredhes told guests that in 2010 up to 126 million Australian vacation days went unused and in 2011 that number maintained with 117 million days. The Consul General said the large number of holiday days available to the Australian public presented “major potential” for “aggressive marketing” to possible travellers.   With a short destination video and a marketing campaign planned, Mr Suwanpredhes said Australians would further be enticed to visit Thailand particularly as it celebrates a landmark anniversary with Australia this year. Describing 2012 as the “signature year” for Thailand, he explained the 60 year anniversary of friendship between the two countries will play a role in boosting travel between the two destinations. According to the head, Australia makes up five percent of Thailand’s international arrivals, with up to 800,000 Aussies passing through its airport gates last year.
