Just the Second Dive Operation in the Galapagos Islands to be Awarded Such Distinction
QUITO, ECUADOR, May 23, 2012 â Hernan Rodas, owner and founder of Red Mangrove Galapagos and Ecuador Lodges, the region's leading hospitality company for active adventure and dive vacations, recently announced that they have been awarded the coveted PADI Five-Star Dive Resort designation, just the second one of its kind in the Galapagos Islands.
The five-star rating is the highest rating standard within PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors).
âWe've been working toward this designation for about a year, getting all the recreational and professional certifications along with improving the facility overall,â said Rodas. âWhile attaining this wonderful achievement is a huge feather in our cap, Red Mangrove will continue to be a dive center of not only quality instruction, quality equipment, quality service, but we will continue to provide our clients, dive buddies and friends with the highest level of service possible.â
To attain the five-star rating, a PADI Dive Resort must have attained and must maintain exceptional standards in the dive industry. Areas of review include but are not limited to customer service, instruction program, community involvement, service department, rental department, youth programs, instruction staff/credentials and environmental initiatives. The application is reviewed by a panel at PADI North America in California then awarded or denied by that panel. PADI Five-Star Dive Center Membership is awarded to progressive PADI Dive Shops that excel in providing scuba divers with a full range of scuba certification programs, scuba gear selection, and scuba experience opportunities. To qualify as PADI Five-Star Dive Center, a dive shop must meet elevated service and business standards and both promote and offer only PADI scuba diving lessons as their recreational scuba diver training. These dive operations also actively promote underwater environmental awareness and embrace the PADI System of diver education, with a commitment to providing quality training, products, services and experiences.
In conformance with PADI instruction standards, Red Mangrove's Galapagos dive center offers the following courses: Open Water Diver, Adventures in Diving, Advanced Open Water Diver, Rescue Diver, Emergency First Response, Master Scuba Diver, Divemaster, Assistant Instructor, Open Water Scuba Instructor, Master Scuba Diver Trainer and IDC Staff Instructor.
Modern, comfortable classrooms will accommodate up to 40 students. There are his and her changing rooms, lockers, a patio/juice bar, a large and modern repair center, a retail store for parts and new diving equipment, and a state of the art Commercial Nitrox Maker with Cascade system custom built by Brownies in Fort Lauderdale FL. (Brownies is world renowned for their work with custom compressors and Nitrox systems on some of the world's most luxurious yachts and dive centers.) Every scuba instructor's dream will be the 20-foot-deep training pool.
Caleb Hayes, diving project manager, coordinates the work of at present five PADI-approved dive instructors and the same number of dive masters who accompany divers on recreational outings. Two modern dive boats take guests to 45 dive and snorkel sites available off of Santa Cruz, Floreana and Isabela islands. He expected his staff and the number of boats to grow as Red Mangrove dive facilities become established within the diving world. For dive packages see: http://www.redmangrove.com/diving/.
Already welcoming guests are two lodges dedicated to divers. The nine-room Red Mangrove Santa Cruz Divers Lodge in Puerto Ayora on Santa Cruz Island offers a hot tub, library/lounge and on-premise dining. It is a short walk from the lodge to the water and is adjacent to the soon to be opened Red Mangrove Dive Academy. The five-room Red Mangrove Isabela Divers Lodge located within steps of the sea is a linear design with large windows inviting natural light into every room. All rooms have private bathroom, hot water, hair dryer, safety box, air conditioning, cable television, wireless internet and laundry service. The adjacent Coco Restaurant serves three meals daily.
About Red Mangrove Galapagos and Ecuador Lodges
Red Mangrove Galapagos and Ecuador Lodges in 2007 introduced a land-based alternative to exploring the Galapagos that heretofore was a cruise-only destination. While it may be best known for its upscale lodging and dive operations in the Galapagos, recent expansion has made it a leader in mainland Ecuador hospitality as well. With upscale waterfront lodges strategically situated on Santa Cruz, Isabela and Floreana, it is the only company offering high quality, branded accommodations and services on multiple islands in the Galapagos and across mainland Ecuador. Because it is land-based, Red Mangrove can offer a more extensive roster of activities and more flexibility than traditional cruise options.
The customary way to experience Red Mangrove's Galapagos hospitality is to spend a number of nights on each island accessed by small boat and/or aircraft. With 14 guest rooms, Aventura Lodge on Santa Cruz is distinguished by its architectural design which blends its mangrove forest and seafront environments tastefully and responsibly. Separated from the ocean by a white sand, palm-lined beach, Isabela Lodge offers eight rooms outside the fisherman's village of Puerto Villamil on one of the most volcanically active islands on Earth. Red Mangrove Floreana Lodge is a gathering of 10 private pine cottages just a five minute walk from the village of Puerto Velasco Ibarra (population 150). Red Mangrove Divers Lodge Santa Cruz has 9 rooms near the Red Mangrove Dive Academy. Red Mangrove Isabela Divers Lodge features 5-rooms adjacent to scenic Puerto Villamil. On the mainland coast of Ecuador Samai Lodge with 11 rooms is an inn-and-spa suited for recollection, relaxation and wellness surrounded by the sounds of the jungle and surf.
