Australian regulators have approved Air New Zealand and Virgin Australia's request to reduce their seating capacity across the Tasman by up to 4.
2 percent to comply with seating capacity requirements.
Announced this morning, the Australian Competition and Consumer Association said the cut would take place on the Northern Summer 2012 and Northern Winter 2012 scheduling and is a result of reduced demand on flights to and from Christchurch since last years quake.
The variation is subject to applicants notifying the ACCC as soon as practicable of any material changes in demand conditions so that the variation may be amended accordingly, the ACCC said.
