eTravelBlackboard: APAC, US, Euro drive Melbourne arrivals
Turism&Travel Travellers from Asia Pacific, Europe and the US topped arrivals into Melbourne Airport during May this year, according to the airport’s latest figures.

Unveiled today, the airport found its strongest performing nationalities for the month came from Spain with a 24.3 percent increase on the same month last year followed by China with 19.8 percent more arrivals. Arrivals from the USA and Canada also grew for the month by 17.1 percent and 15.4 percent while visitors from Sweden jumped 18.1 percent over May 2011. “We have achieved phenomenal growth from our Chinese passport holders and it’s largely due to our strategy of working closely with the state government and the state’s peak tourism bodies, and presenting Victoria as a great tourist destination,” Melbourne Airport chief executive Chris Woodruff said.  “It was also pleasing to note the increase in North Americans travelling in May as a result of increased capacity. “We are also continuing to focus on investing in our facilities and road network to continue to deliver the best airport experience we can for all of our passengers and airline customers.”  In total international arrivals into Melbourne escalated by 1.8 percent from 490,306 during May 2011 to 499,368 this year. On a domestic front, arrivals slowed for the airport with a minor 0.1 percent growth in local visitors compared to May last year from 1.763 million to 1.765 million. Source = e-Travel Blackboard: N.J
