More and more travellers are relying on their mobile phones and social media to plan and enjoy their holidays, according to Holiday Hyperlink.
The company, which is part of the TUI travel group and online travel retailer, revealed that over 100,000 visitors accessed their site from mobile phones during the month of April 2012, Marketwatch reported.
Research found travellers wish to search for holiday ideas on their mobile phones so they can share them with friends online and to find out more on current travel deals and specials.
Validating this, a recent TripAdvisor survey found that 38 percent of travellers post status updates to social networking sites to keep family and friends informed of their travels.
Holiday Hypermarket marketing manager Calum MacDonald said whether holidaymakers are checking on flights or searching for local attractions they reply on their mobile phones and social media to plan their holidays.
Often, this process begins at home when youre waiting for a friend or sitting on the bus and a great holiday deal catches your eye, Mr MacDonald said.
For this reason, we try to keep in touch with travellers on Holiday Hypermarket Facebook, Holiday Hypermarket Twitter and Holiday Hypermarket Pinterest to answer questions and share updates.
