eTurboNews : Seychelles Minister featured on cover of Routes News magazine

The growing dynamism by Seychelles and the respect they have now earned in the community of tourism nations has earned them many accolades, and the Routes organization operating from its Manchester headquarters in the UK has now also joined those who continue to be impressed by Seychelles.

The full front cover of the latest Routes News, the magazine for world air service development, carries a picture of Minister Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism & Culture, with the title “Treasure islands: The Seychelles.”

Four pages of this worldwide aviation and tourism magazine speak about the Seychelles and what it is achieving today as islands dependent on their tourism industry. Seychelles has just brought the Routes Africa forum for the first time to the Indian Ocean and to the East and Southern Africa regions. This Routes Africa has been widely recognized as having been the biggest and the most important Routes Africa forum ever. Most of the 300-plus delegates, all senior government or airline executives, have commented on the exceptional beauty of the Seychelles and on their Tourism Board's ability to break into the world of strategic and important conferences after their perfect organization of Routes Africa 2012.

The importance of tourism for Seychelles cannot be underestimated. The island's President, Mr. James Michel, and before him Vice President Joseph Belmont, personally held the portfolio for tourism in the government. President Michel launched the island's very own “Seychelles Brand” of tourism in his drive to get the Seychellois more involved in the island's tourism industry before upgrading tourism into a full-fledged ministry. This move showed the confidence the President of the Republic had for Alain St.Ange, who was until then the Chief Executive Officer of the Seychelles Tourism Board, answering directly to the President as he held the tourism portfolio in his own government.

Speaking to the press as he closed Routes Africa 2012, Minister Alain St.Ange said that he is guided by the “Seychelles Brand” of tourism vision launched by the President of the Republic. “We want Seychelles and the Seychellois to benefit from our tourism industry, that industry that remains the pillar of our economy. We also want our tourism industry consolidated for the long term – this is our economic backbone, but this drive also gives confidence to our investors. They feel secure. For us to continue to succeed, we need to move ahead with dynamism as we have done before, and we need to do it with intelligence. We need to continue to work with our private sector and to be leaders in the field, and innovative at all times. We cannot be following in paths or with actions already coined by others, as that will show to the world that we have lost the drive and that we are set to fail. This is why we continue to move with our heads high on a course set out for our islands' tourism industry,” Minister St.Ange said.
