Local Government Minister, Malarndirri McCarthy has slammed the Country Liberal Party’s (CLP) latest alleged policy on tourism for the Northern Territory describing it as only a name change with no actual change in functions.
According to Ms McCarthy, the announcement of the policy does not involve one new initiative, or commit one new dollar towards promoting tourism in the Northern Territory.
Ms McCarthy slammed the CLP leader and opposition leader in the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly Terry Mills saying “Terry Mills clearly does not understand the primary charter of the Territory's peak tourism agency which has not changed since it was called a Commission.”
Ms McCarthy continued to criticise the CLP leader, saying the changes show his ignorance on how our tourism industry works.
Legislative amendments in 2006 included a name change for the NT Tourist Commission to Tourism Northern Territory (Tourism NT), to more accurately reflect the commercial nature of the organisation’s core business.
