ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - The government of Pakistan foiled around 13 attempts to plant explosive devices at markets, where families were busy with Eid shopping, by suspending cell phone service for around 12 hours from 2200 hours PST to 1000 hours PST.
According to sources after receiving credible information about planting devices in places of Eid activities, including 2 mosques, federal government took initiative and suspended cell phone services despite of strong protests and pressure from multinational cell phone service providers that were expecting a huge financial gain on Eid night via text messages and greeting calls. Sources confirmed that provincial government of Punjab deactivated explosive devices at nine different points but refrained from sharing details with media to avoid panic.
When law enforcing authorities were contacted to comment, they declined any comments and just stated that "strategy of federal government really worked and preempted many disasters that could have happened on Chand Raat and during Eid prayers".
Meanwhile the threats of attacks on certain police headquarters and army parade grounds still exist and the security level remains high.
