com Tourism has a promising future in Turkey, according to a new report, despite a slight decline in arrivals during the first four months of 2012. The Research and Markets reports unveiled earlier this month found that tourism into Turkey is expected to grow by up to 2.5 percent this year as well as a further six percent in the coming year. Despite the rise, the report warned domestic political violence “remains a threat to tourism”, with arrival numbers from Iran, Syria and Germany already impacted by local disruptions. “There was a substantial fall in arrivals from Iran and Syria, while the key source market, Germany, provided a six percent fall,” the report read. “Visitors from Europe as a whole fell by five percent y-o-y, though there was slight positive growth in the number of arrivals from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).” Meanwhile the country’s national carrier, Turkish Airlines, recorded a strong growth in passenger figures, with a 19 percent increase in January to April compared to the same period last year.
