Leading Online Booking Site Also Notes Manila, Lima and Bangkok As New Favorite Hot Spots NEW YORK, NY â September 27, 2012 â Where's hot, where's not? Leading online travel booking site OneTravel.
com just released its data for fall 2012 bookings and spotted some interesting travel trends. Several new international cities have cracked the list of top ten destinations for fall, and a drop in average airfares to Europe has resulted in a resurgence of travel to some continental capital cities. Europe bookings are up approximately 20 percent. In fact, Europe owns the top five list of most popular international destinations this fall, with London, Paris, Rome, Frankfurt and Barcelona all seeing a surge of American visitors this quarter. Why now? âEurope is cheaper this year than last,â said Mark Drusch, Chief Supplier Relations Officer for Fareportal, the parent company of OneTravel. âAn average U.S. domestic airfare this fall ranges from $260 â $350, depending on the gateway, while an average European fare is $450 â $650, a relative bargain compared to domestic travel.â Drusch also noted that fall is a great time to visit Europe since hotel rates are lower, the crowds are gone, the weather is mild and all the local attractions, restaurants and shops are open again, following their summer holidays. South America bookings are up 50 percent. âU.S. travelers are discovering South America in droves due to the diversity of experiences and relatively inexpensive prices,â said Drusch. OneTravel cites Brazil, Colombia and Peru as the most popular destinations in South America this fall. A sample vacation package search for roundtrip air from New York and a seven-night hotel stay in Rio de Janeiro in October can be found on OneTravel for just $1,500 â a marked 25 percent discount compared to high season travel. Other major shifts among popular international destinations this fall are long haul, more exotic locations like Bangkok, Lima and Manila. Domestically, New York City, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Denver and Orlando continue as the five most popular destinations, while San Francisco edged out Atlanta this year in the top ten ranking. When it comes to trip planning, booking windows vary depending on destination. On average, OneTravel's domestic travelers booked trips approximately 30-45 days in advance while those venturing overseas booked vacations 45-60 days out. Drusch recommends that travelers âshould book at least three weeks out or more for domestic travel and at least 30 days out for international travel, if possible, to get the best prices. For heavy travel times, like holidays and school vacations, book as soon as you know your plans. The lower price seats are particularly limited during those times and therefore sell out fast.â About OneTravel OneTravel.com offers travel deals for today's internet savvy user, allowing users to book discounted flights, hotels, vacation packages, and activities with the ease of today's high speed internet.
