Emirates has commenced daily services between Auckland and Dubai, with Melbourne Airport welcoming the first A380 service on Tuesday morning this week.
Melbourne Airport chief executive Chris Woodruff eagerly anticipated the arrival of EK406.
I was thrilled to watch the inaugural Emirates A380 service touch-down this morning, further strengthening our close relationship which commenced in 1996 when Emirates chose Melbourne as their first Australian destination, Mr Woodruff said.
Emirates is a valued customer of Melbourne Airport, and the new A380 services to Auckland and Dubai confirm Melbournes position as a key global destination.
Melbourne Airports increased international passenger growth, partnered with its curfew-free status has resulted in unparalleled flexibility and convenience, Mr Woodruff added.
Melbourne was the first major Australian airport to be A380 ready and we continue to invest in our facilities to enhance services, including recently opening two additional international gates and upgrading our aerobridges to accommodate more A380s.
