eTurboNews : Amiri Decree issued to state Sharjah Media Centre as an independent entity

SHARJAH, UAE - His Highness Sheikh Dr.

Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, issued the Amiri Decree No. (33) for the year 2012, on the reorganization of the Sharja Media Centre and the Emiri Decree No. (34) for 2012 which states the appointment of Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qassimi as the Chairman of the center.

The Executive Council of the emirate of Sharjah appointed during a meeting held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah Osama Samra as Director of the Sharjah Media Centre.

Within the Amiri Decree No. (33) for the year 2012 it is also stated, that Sharjah Media Centre, as a legal entity, has financial and administrative independence and full legal authority to initiate legal procedures and initiatives that ensure the achievement of its functions, defined within the Amiri Decree No. 5, 2011.

To fulfil its functions, Sharjah Media Centre comprises three sub-units, namely The Media Office of His Highness, Government Communication Unit, and Press Club. These sub-units ensure a qualitative and systematic delivery of the emirate's key messages to the world, in addition to sustaining a solid communications network between all of Sharjah's government entities and creating a regional hub for professionals from all walks of the media and communications field.

The Media Office supports the media relations of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. It is equipped with the latest facilities and technologies, and operated by various professionals who collectively create a unique pool of local knowledge and global best practices.

The Sharjah Government Communication unit attests to the government of Sharjah's commitment to adopting best practices in government communication and enhancing the process of communication between the various government authorities and citizens.

Through this unit, the government message will be unified and the capacity of government communication professionals across all authorities will be developed to communicate government achievements and initiatives more effectively.

The unit will be comprised of five main departments: Media Monitoring, Press, Strategic Communication, Planning and Coordination, and Social Media. Sharjah Press Club builds a community for press members, and all media and communications professionals enjoying networking opportunities with each other and gain exclusive access to Sharjah's government officials.

Sharjah Press Club is open to a wide segment of communication professionals including - but not limited to - reporters, photographers, editors, journalism teachers, and those associated with public relations and advertising sectors. Membership is also open to college students pursuing studies in journalism or a related field.
