Following numerous press reports that the son-in-law of the former President of Tunisia had been detained in Seychelles, the Seychellois government would like to provide the following clarifications.

The Ministry can confirm that Mr. Sakhr El Matri was briefly questioned at Seychelles International Airport upon his arrival.

Mr. El Matri was granted entry, but it should be noted that the he has already subsequently left the Seychelles. Mr. El Matri was not arrested as was reported by some international media.

The government has taken note of a request tabled by the Tunisian government to deport Mr. Al Matri to face charges in Tunisia.

Seychelles is a founding member of the International Coalition of Tourism Partners (ICTP).
