LOS ANGELES, California - Green Globe announced certification of the Chepu Adventures Eco Lodge, located at Chepu, Chiloe Island, Insular Patagonia, in the south of Chile.
Since its opening in 2004, Chepu Adventures has become a leading company promoting the knowledge and protection of nature through low-impact living and outdoor activities. Chepu Adventures has taken a proactive role in preserving and protecting nature in all its forms, and has demonstrated outstanding environmental practices on all levels.
âSustainability is more than just a concept to us,â said Amory Uslar, Owner of Chepu Adventures Eco Lodge. âFollowing our dream and moving out here from the busy city life of Santiago in the year 2000, for my husband and I this has been our life project to accomplish 100% sustainable living, with nature being our main supplier. We take great pride in contributing to Chile's tourism, sharing our experience and passion with visitors from all over the world. Sharing our nature is a wonderful way to preserve it â if you know it, you love it â and when you love it you take good care of it! Earning the prestigious Green Globe accreditation and the international recognition proves our continued efforts to make green choices for global environmental preservation."
A long-term Sustainability Management System is in effect at Chepu Adventures Eco Lodge, and the property is 100% self-sustainable. Energy is provided by solar panels and wind generators, and solar water heaters are installed. Roofs are being used as rain-collectors, and water facilities include a well and large water tanks. Waste is being kept to a minimum, and sorting actions have been implemented: organics go to compost; paper is burnt in the only fire stove at the property; and bottles, metal, and plastics are given to a recycling facility in Ancud. Guests are invited to learn about Chiloe traditions and local mythology, or join community-related volunteer work, promoting awareness. Chepu Adventures offers a number of eco-friendly activities, such as kayaking; trekking; and mammal and bird watching.
Green Globe Certification's CEO, Guido Bauer, commented: âWe are extremely pleased to award certification to Chepu Adventures Eco Lodge in Chile. This property sets benchmarks with their outstanding efforts and dedication to sustainable development in Chile, and is the first in Chile to earn certification. I am very impressed with Chepu Adventures' commitment to be completely sustainable through the use of renewable energy, turning the community into a more eco-sustainable way of life. Chepu Adventures support the local rural school, teaching environmental good practices to their students.â
