FORT COLLINS, CO, Mar.
10, 2013 â For one international bicycle touring company, prepping guests for a day on a bike is part of a pre-trip regimen.
âSome 80 percent of our travelers are Baby Boomers and beyond, between the ages of 50 and 75,â reports Maria Elena Price, co-owner of ExperiencePlus! Bicycle Tours that conducts week-long to 45-day cycling tours in Europe and Chile and Argentina.
âSome years ago we found that preparing people for bicycle-only travel was important. We worked with a renowned cycling coach, Joe Friel, author of, among other training books, Cycling Past 50, who designed training programs for our tours,â she adds.
Training programs and training calendars are available online for free. They are segmented for ages over and under 50 and consider the kinds of activities that people engage in normally. Plus the trainings are customized for tour ratings based on miles per day and terrain difficulty. Included are bike handling skill tips. Pre-trip training programs offer a 12-week step-by-step process to get in perfect shape for an upcoming cycle tour.
âPeople tell us that they do benefit from the training and enjoy their trip so much more,â Price says.
