Liveability.com editors chose the 2013 list from among “micropolitan areas,” excluding big-city suburbs and communities that are part of a larger metropolitan region. Other considerations included population and economic growth rates, as well as amenities that are attracting new residents and businesses. Rock Springs was selected for its unique cultural assets, abundance of natural resources and beauty, and residents who are passionate about preserving the character of the community. High paying jobs in the mining and extracting industry continue to fuel growth in Rock Springs, particularly with residents under 35. The Rock Springs population increased 4.4 percent from 2010 to 2012. “Rock Springs' characteristics and its quality of life are phenomenal, but what truly defines our city is its people,” says Carl R.
