The capital city of Quito, Ecuador continues to encourage votes as it makes it to the final round to be one of the New7Wonders cities.
(www.new7wonders.com) The New7Wonders global contest announced its 14 finalist cities yesterday, narrowing down the field from the 21 cities announced on July 7, 2014. Quito joins other worldwide cities including Chicago, London and Mexico City. The contest continues until Dec. 7, 2014 when the final New7 Wonders cities will be declared. âResidents of Quito and across Ecuador have become completely inspired and engaged with this global online contest,â says Patricio Gaybor, executive director of Quito Tourism. âIt is with a tremendous sense of pride to announce we have made it to the final round.â To celebrate the final round of voting, Quito Tourism has come up with a list of 14 reasons why it should be named as a final New7Wonders city: 1. Quito's vibrant colonial architecture with its detailed and artistic masonry and metal work has no parallel in the world. 2. Quito's culinary culture with a mixture of South American and European flavors, combining ingredients and techniques that will please the most demanding palates. 3. Quito's landscapes will take your breath away. From El Panecillo you can spot the whole city with the Avenue of the Volcanoes as backdrop. 4. Coffee beans: Quito is famous for the quality of its coffee and nothing beats a freshly roasted cup of Ecuadorian Joe. 5. Cacao beans: Quito is home to some of the best chocolatiers in South America. Having a constant supply of cacao beans at a hand's reach from the nearby plantations also helps. 6. Pre-Columbian art and culture that you can see reflected on the arts and crafts made by today's artisans. You can see their work at the Mercado Artesanal de la Mariscal. 7. More than $87M of investment in the hospitality industry. This investment puts Quito at the forefront of tourism infrastructure development in South America. 8. The roses: Ecuador is one of the World's top rose producers and Quito is home to several rose plantations. Furthermore, these plantations are visitor friendly. 9. El Teleferico (cable car): a one of a kind view of this beautiful city, this is certainly a great way to take it all in. 10. Quito is right in the middle of the world; at latitude 00'00â Quito is the only city in the world where you can have each foot on different hemispheres at the same time. 11. Quito's many parks (such as La Carolina that covers 165 acres) and surrounding green areas make this a city in which urban sprawl has been curved in favor of sustainable development. 12. Quito is also a modern city with hip concert venues, nightclubs and restaurants offering multiple entertainment options for its visitors. 13. Due to its latitude and altitude Quito's weather is always temperate, never too cold or too warm. 14. Quito's main asset, however, is its people who are hardworking, welcoming and joyful, Quito's people are responsible for Quito's success and one of the fondest memories that visitors take when going back home. The other 13 New7Wonders finalists include: Barcelona (Spain), Beirut (Lebanon), Chicago (United States), Doha (Qatar), Durban (South Africa), Havana (Cuba), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), La Paz (Bolivia), London (United Kingdom), Mexico City (Mexico), Perth (Australia), Reykjavik (Iceland) and Vigan (Philippines).
