Context Travel, organizer of critically acclaimed walking tours, unveils a new seminar chronicling the history of fashion in Paris from the 18th century, highlighting influential designers that revolutionized the way we dress. The walk, entitled Conceiving Couture: Fashion History in Paris, examines the evolution of fashion from haute couture to ready-to-wear and the culture of shopping from the French Revolution, through Baron Haussmann's revitalization of the city, to the present-day fashion houses located on the Champs-ElysĂ©es. The seminar includes a look at influential designers who paved the way for new trends and influences in the fashion world. The walk begins at the Palais Royal, visiting the grands magasins near the Place de l'OpĂ©ra, the Place VendĂŽme and nearby streets that housed former ateliers of Worth and Chanel, finishing at the Champs-ElysĂ©es. âWe're thrilled to be offering this historic approach to fashion,â says Lindsay Poulin, member of Context's Paris team. âParis and fashion are synonymous, and this walk goes back to the foundation of how the city became, and remains, such an iconic place for luxury and style.âConceiving Couture: Fashion History in Paris lasts three hours and is available Monday through Sunday.
